Portia always had a pencil in hand drawing. She attended Rochester Hills High School where in her senior year was placed in the Advanced/Portfolio class. She also attended Cranbrook's Young Peoples Art Courses in the evenings. Also that year she won a Scholastic award for her mono wood cut print "Image of a Girl". Portia went on to attend Western Michigan University where she studied Graphic Art. Later she studied Life Drawing at the Center for Creative Study in Detroit. Life drawing has remained her passion specializing in the drawing of person, place, and pet images in graphite and color pencil. She has sold many of her drawings, including commissioned works, ranging from story illustrations to portraits. Portia's drawings have earned several awards while exhibited throughout Michigan. She has taught Drawing for over thirty years in the area both privately and for Birmingham, Brandon, Clarkston, Waterford and Holly community adult and children's enrichment programs. Portia and husband Richard have lived in Ortonville for 32 years.
